Our Mission

"'For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' "Then the righteous will answer him. 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Matthew 25:35-40

Helping those impacted by Dorian -

A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Friends:

I come to you today with a heavy heart. By now, you have seen the news reports and heard of the devastation Hurricane Dorian brought to the Bahamas. Just two short years ago, Hurricane Harvey danced a 6-day fest upon the Texas Gulf Coast. We are still in the process of rebuilding and recovery. Unlike Harvey, Hurricane Dorian was a Category 5 storm that absolutely demolished two of the major islands in the Bahamas: Abaco and Grand Bahamas. Literally, it is as if the structures were wiped off the face of the earth. Tens of thousands are homeless, jobless, and without a church.

I have spent the last twelve hours talking to pastor friends in the Bahamas. One pastor from Abaco lost both his home and church. He said, “It is devastating. I have seen many hurricanes, but nothing like this. It is a heartbreaking moment.” Two other pastors in Grand Bahamas are ok, but their homes and churches are in ruins.

Now is the time for the Church of Jesus Christ to arise! Yes, many ministries are already there. Convoy of Hope and Samaritan’s Purse are on the ground. Others are raising funds to aid in the relief. They are good organizations.

Action Ministries Houston, Inc. has a thirty-year history of networking with people in storm ravaged communities. We are still the hands and feet of Jesus Christ of Nazareth in times of distress. You have been faithful in answering the call and I applaud you for your generosity. It is time to show His love again.

Even now, I received an email outlining the action plan from the leadership of a church body. Here is the need and call to action:

PHASE 1: Water and food supplies and hygiene kits

PHASE 2: Emergency supplies and clothing

PHASE 3: Temporary homes for pastors and reconstruction of a camp to accommodate workers

PHASE 4: Reconstruction of the churches and homes for pastors

This will be a process. It will take the work of many. No one person or organization can meet the total need. God created the Body to work together, each part doing its individual part.

I have spoken to several and said the same word of encouragement. God created the Church, not governments, to meet the needs of the people. I pray for wisdom, guidance, and direction as pastors, shepherd the restoration process. I pray they would be faithful with the resources God entrusts to them and operate with discernment integrity. May the Church of Jesus Christ arise and be the guiding light during this despair.

You have a part in this process. You have the means to make a difference. You can continue to show His love, mercy, and outreach in this time. You are a blessing to Action Ministries and to people around the world. I know together we can once again impact a community, island, and nation.

Recently, Action Ministries receive d a pledge for funds. This donor has been generous, and we are utilizing this pledge to match dollar for dollar you gift in this time of need. Your $1 becomes $2; your $50 becomes $100; or, your $1,000 becomes $2,000. This match is to $10,000.
